More than hosted versus self-hosted

Clientexec also offers managed hosting

Clientexec publishes both self-hosted licence options and a hosted service. It would be misleading to suggest that moving to BillingServ is the only way to avoid maintaining a Clientexec installation.

Instead, compare the service you would actually buy: its included support, module access, migration arrangements and recurring cost at your customer count. Then test the daily tasks your staff and customers will use.

BillingServ combines recurring billing, invoices, customer records, support and supported service integrations in a hosted platform. It also provides metered billing and API access for businesses adding consumption charges to fixed plans.

Use the correct client count and hosting option

Clientexec's self-hosted pricing lists Branded Leased at $16.95/month and Unbranded Leased at $19.95/month after a first-month promotion. Both list unlimited clients. Do not use those licence prices as a quote for its separately offered hosted service. Clientexec pricing, checked 5 September 2026.

BillingServ lists £12/month for up to 250 clients, £18 for up to 1,000 and £28 for unlimited clients, excluding VAT. There is no platform percentage fee on billed revenue; provider charges are separate. BillingServ plans.

For example, a business with 1,500 clients should compare BillingServ Business rather than Starter. Keep the USD and GBP figures separate until you apply the same exchange-rate assumption and tax treatment. If your host supplies a bundled licence, include that arrangement in the comparison.

Migration planning

Preserve customer continuity

Before moving from Clientexec, list your server plugins, domain providers, gateway configuration, custom order forms and any reseller arrangements. Verify those dependencies against BillingServ rather than assuming the familiar feature labels mean identical behaviour.

Map customer and service identifiers, reconcile unpaid invoices and decide which system owns each renewal during cutover. Review stored payment authorisations with the provider: keeping the same gateway name does not prove portability.

Keep Clientexec if the current workflow, bundled licence or custom integrations already suit your business better. Consider BillingServ if its hosted workflow and supported pricing models solve a specific problem you can demonstrate in a trial. We do not claim a universal one-click Clientexec import. See the migration checklist.
